Trust What You Feel More Than What You Think

Trust what you feel more than what you think

Sometimes we seem to have a sixth sense when it comes to, for example, seeing which people can harm us. We tend to dismiss this intuition for not being based on rational parameters, since that determines the probability that we are wrong.

However, our intuitive voice is very useful and important when it comes to navigating the world. In fact, our brain works with a large amount of information that we are not aware of.

That is to say, when we have heart palpitations, it is for something. Our mind works without declaring what it does, speaking to us but without giving us explanations. The reality is that the world is not structured to be guided by intuition, but sometimes it would not hurt to give it a little value.

Intuition is the lucidity that the heart knows and the mind ignores

They say that our intelligence is always right, but that our intuition is never wrong. While this is not entirely true, let’s say it is true that consciousness overvalues its ability to control.

As we mentioned at the beginning, sometimes we may not like something and we do not know why it is. Then, almost automatically, we dismiss the information that our sixth sense gives us and we do not stop to analyze it.

In fact, we can form the image of a person in a few moments, specifically, only 6 seconds are enough. This is quite adaptive, as quickly discriminating who can be conflictive or toxic is very important to protect our integrity.

Emotional intuition: empathy

Also, in emotional terms, intuition carries a lot of weight. This is where empathy comes into play, which is still a kind of intuition. In other words, what certainty do we have that the emotions we are perceiving are real?

Over time, handling these cues becomes an automatic action that will help us develop our intuitive skills. In love, for example, this is especially relevant. Although we do not know exactly what it is that leads us to think that someone loves us, we are not usually wrong.

In fact, intuition becomes the recognition of situations, people and the consequences of what happens around us. However, blindly listening to our sixth sense can also take its toll, so we must be careful.

In relation to this, it seems that there is basis to affirm that, today,  women have a greater capacity to discriminate and quickly read the emotions of others, to know if they are pretending, lying or if a partner really loves each other.

The dangers of intuition

Being able to make judgments quickly and with little effort can lead to misunderstandings and, therefore, to miss much of the beauty of life and the people we meet.

For this reason, we must restrain ourselves and try to mentally elaborate hypothetical situations in which our prejudices may act wrongly. That is to say, when we realize that we are acting out of reflexive assumptions or feelings and without a great foundation, we must also stop to think.

It is essential to give our intuition its rightful place. We must take it into account to the same extent that we must confront it with reality, obtaining a balance that allows us to advance in all areas of life.
