5 Ways To Develop Your Intuition

5 ways to develop your intuition

Although you think that developing your intuition is something very difficult to achieve, the truth is that like any skill it can be enhanced and perfected. It is true that there are many people who have a very powerful instinct in a seemingly innate way. However, more than with a correct intuition, in this sense the ease that we have to let ourselves be carried away will be more important.

Developing your intuition will allow you to obtain certain benefits, since this skill helps you make good decisions, solve problems, be more successful and warn you of certain dangers quickly. To do this, we present 5 ways you can start boosting your intuitive ability today. What are you waiting to put them into practice?

1. Trust your hunches

Trusting your hunches is important to ending a situation you don’t like or making an important decision. How many times have you been with someone with whom you only argued and suffered? Have you ever been in a job that you didn’t like and your instinct told you to “quit”?

The so-called hunches have a very important advantage. Contrary to rational and conscious decision making, they are not paralyzed or overwhelmed by excess information. In this sense there is a paradox and it is that, by not working only on the conscious plane or being only a product of this plane, his designs may have taken into account much more information. In this sense, if you have to make a quick decision, trust it rather than chance.

2. Beware of prejudices that cloud your intuition

Sometimes developing your intuition is not easy: once you think you are putting it into practice, it does not offer the results you expect. This can happen because you are confusing the biases you have with your own intuition. Prejudices are preconceived ideas about something that are so deeply embedded in you that you cannot tell whether they are yours  or you have learned them. How can you disperse that fog that causes this confusion in you?

Every time that before a decision your hunch tells you, for example, “that person does not suit you” you have to stop to analyze and reflect to what extent this is interfered with by your prejudices or not. Even see if your past experiences are causing that vision that you now have about that person.

3. Mindfulness can be a great ally

Surely you have heard something about Mindfulness and meditation, both techniques that allow you to focus on the present moment, calm your mind of thoughts that only serve to offer you discomfort and to pay attention to nuances of your environment that you previously overlooked.

Mindfulness and meditation help you to connect with yourself, to be aware of all those prejudices that we talked about before and that are not part of you, but that you have assimilated according to the society and culture in which you have grown up. With patience and practicing every day, even if it is only 5 minutes, you will get rid of anxiety and stress, you will connect with the now, you will observe your thoughts without judging them and you will be able to listen to your inner voice, your intuition.

4. Learn to be more empathetic

Empathy is also a skill that can be developed. Thanks to her we are able to put ourselves in the place of the other, understanding how they feel from their circumstances. In any case, it is a great tool for collaboration, strengthening emotional ties and help.

To develop your intuition, you can practice being more empathetic. How? When you are with someone try to intuit what they think and what they feel. It is better that at first you do this with people you know very well, so that you have enough confidence to ask them later if you were right.

Given this, it can be of great help to analyze non-verbal language and, above all, put reason aside and give way to that “sixth sense” that will make your assumptions closer to what really happens to the other person. This is a great way to develop your intuition.

5. Play with the visualizations

If you want to opt for something more fun, even if it may not seem like it,  the visualizations will help you develop your intuition. Do it at a time when you are alone, where there is no noise and you can relax and prepare to perform this exercise.

Thus, you can start by closing your eyes and imagine that you are in the middle of a landscape, a house or a pleasant environment that you choose. The idea is that you are able to visualize it, to look at it and feel everything you are imagining -the breeze, the heat of the sun, a hug, something that catches your attention, a color-. Spend the minutes you want and then open your eyes. You will feel very good and your intuition will be improved.

When we are young we let ourselves be guided more by intuition than by reason, but as we grow we make the latter become more important. However, wanting to approach everything from reason saturates our cognitive capacity, increases the level of stress and finally leads us to make mistakes.

Letting ourselves be guided by that sixth sense that we all have, but that many of us mitigate, will help us feel better and give our life meaning. Because, sometimes, the best for us does not understand reasons, but something deeper that makes us panic because we do not understand it.
